Hair styles of infants: 25 short and easy-to-maintain ideas for your baby

So I decided to take matters into my own hands, using a few simple hairstyles of my own, and some cuter ones that are inspired by my sister-in-law. Because let me tell you, my niece is always looking good.

The next hairstyle we did with our daughter was a single ponytail on top of her head. Once she had enough hair to do this, we would just pull it all together and tie it with a tiny hair tie and maybe a bow to accessorize.

Last, you can do three ponytails all in a row. You start in the front with a ponytail, then add that to a middle ponytail, and then add that to a third ponytail at the back. This one you will definitely want to use a clip to hold the hair back while you tie off the ponytails. You could do this with two ponytails, too.

It all depends on how much hair your baby has but, generally speaking, do not cut your baby's hair before its first birthday. Up until the age of six months, the "first hairs" grow and then fall out, following a drop in hormones that's completely normal after birth. So, unless your baby has a really annoying tuft of hair, wait until your child's first birthday.

No, but it does not strengthen the regrowth either. However, it does allow you to rebalance the hair growth. It is also an opportunity for you to keep the hair out of your child's face, ears and off the nape of the neck, where it particularly tends to stick.

Yes, as long as you are just doing a few touch-ups. Sit your baby in a highchair so it does not move. Get your hands on a pair of round-ended scissors (used for cutting children's nails) and explain to your baby what you are going to do.

It is best to cut your baby's hair dry to avoid any nasty surprises (it will seem longer when damp). Start at the nape of the neck because that is the area where the hair grows most quickly. Hold the locks in the air and between your fingers (as shown in the photo) for maximum safety.

Between six months and a year, if you are not comfortable carrying out a few touch-ups. Otherwise, go when your baby needs its first "proper" haircut. To make this first encounter a little easier, feel free to seek advice from your hairdresser on the best time to come into the salon. Not going during peak hours is a wise idea: it is best for your child to go to the hairdressers when there are fewer people around to limit the noise created by the hairdryers or the potent smells of hair colouring treatments.

Instead of typically brushing the baby hairs forward, try mixing it up by creating an upside down U-shape like Zendaya's. "Take a toothbrush and mist the ends with a medium to firm hold hairspray," Candace Witherspoon, a curl specialist at Devachan, says. "Gently begin to mold the baby hair into place."

If simply brushing your baby hairs into place along your hairline isn't enough for you, then take Zoe Saldana's look as an example. Using the same brush that you would your hair, lay down the baby hairs flat by brushing them down and you're ready to head out the door.

Wearing your baby hairs in a soft spiral adds a spunky edge to classic pigtails like Tessa Thompson's. Take the shortest hairs along your hairline and using a light pomade like DevaCurl's Beautiful Mess and an old toothbrush, slowly start shaping the hair into a very soft S-shape from the middle part all the way down to your ear. To create the kiss curl, simply take a small portion of your baby hairs and mold them into a J-shape.

If making a statement with a sky high pony like the one Janet Jackson is rocking isn't for you, then think about copying her wavy baby hair style instead. The key to getting the individual strands to form into that shape is using an old toothbrush dipped in gel or sprayed with hairspray to mold the baby hairs in place, Deanna Brown, a hairdresser at NYC's DevaChan, says. Once you've got one side down, the other side should be easier.

Sometimes you're not in the mood to shape your baby hairs. We get it. For moments like that turn to Laura Harrier's simply brushed straight down style. "To secure it, blow dry edges for 2-4 minutes and wrap a silk scarf around the edges to take away any unwanted frizz," Witherspoon says.

To get Chilli's soft look, use a light pomade and a spooling wand (a clean mascara brush will do!), says Brown. Then, bring some fine hairs forward to apply the pomade and swivel the hair back to reconnect it to your hairline.

For Mariah Carey's seemingly natural style, gently brush your baby hair out and back so it looks like it's all part of your hairline . "Be careful not to use too much gel here to ensure it looks soft," Brown says.

First, gently pull out separate sections at your hairline to get Yara Shahidi's ringlet. Then, use your hands or a small brush to create the curl at the ends. "You may even need to pinch the baby hair in the middle to ensure you get the perfect swoop," Brown adds.

If you're craving Zoe Kravitz's wave, "be mindful of your hair texture and use a gel that will hold down your baby hairs throughout the day," Brown says. To recreate her look, brush out your baby hairs while slicking them down.
